RECOMMENDED PROCEDURE ON HOW TO USE A MOKA POT

Step 1 :  Fill the boiler with warm or room temperature water up to 130ml. The inside of the pot is usually marked with a line to show the fill level. If not, then fill it up to the pressure valve on the side. The water should not seep through the filter basket when you place it on the boiler.  This will clog the coffee and possibly affect the flavor.

Step 2 :  Fill the filter basket with medium grind coffee - up to 18g. Ensure that you do not get any grounds on the outside rim of the container. There must be a perfect seal at this point or else the water will spew out once it begins to boil. Simply wipe any excess grounds off before assembling the pot.

Warning: Do not pack the espresso down too hard! This could possibly clog the system and generate too much pressure.  Tamp lightly to level the grounds in the filter basket.

Step 3  Place the filter basket basket into the base.

Step 4 Lock the pot on. Once again, ensure that no grounds are on the outside rim. Screw the pot onto the base by holding the pot itself, not the handle. The handles can break easily (but are also replaceable).

Step 5 :  Place the pot over medium heat. Medium heat increases the brew time, which enhances the flavor.  Brew time should be at least 3.5-4 minutes. When the brewed coffee starts its slow trickle into the pot, reduce the heat.

For stronger coffee, pour the brew out of the pot as soon as the coffee starts to 'blonde' - colour turns lighter and watery.

Step 6 :  Enjoy your coffee - plain, with added water or milk!
